I had no idea how good it would be to be amongst ‘like minded” people. The group were all lovely and kind, and as well as sketching, the weekend was full of laughter.
The arrangements you made for everything were just perfect.
I would advise anyone thinking of joining one of your workshops to seize the opportunity. I certainly will if invited again.
The course was fabulous. Toby and Colin really gave their all and I learned so much from them both. Not just some techniques but also how to have the confidence to try.
I have gone from being a complete beginner who didn’t like to get her sketch book out of her bag in company to being a person who can go out and have a go at sketching and painting anything outside all day long. This all happened in one weekend. I never thought I would start sketching over breakfast!
This course has given me more freedom to be loose, and flow more with my line drawing. I found the perspective tips very helpful. The continuous line technique is a wonderful skill for me to continue to explore now I am home. Toby and Colin’s different uses of watercolour was fascinating and I will be playing with both styles to incorporate them and eventually find my own way.
I would definitely join another weekend of learning and connecting with great people.
This weekend was so magical: you and Colin really put yourselves out there and into it. Honest and vulnerable, the kind, funny and lovely people that you guys happen to be.
That had a great effect on the group. The open and enthusiastic atmosphere was us mirroring the two of you.
The sketching weekend was great fun and challenging in a way that made me believe that I could create art that I could be proud of. Toby and Colin encouraged us to become confident to put pen to paper - no more staring at the blank page in my sketchbook!
I had a great time with two inspiring teachers (and a friendly group of people); helping us to lose our inhibitions about urban sketching. As someone who usually does art in solitude at home, this weekend has encouraged me to get out and do some sketching outdoors. It has also helped me to develop a looser approach to sketching.
Absolutely amazing Bath sketching weekend with Toby and Colin! Both are fabulous teachers and sketching with them in a group was great, we all learnt so much. Toby and Colin have very different painting styles but don’t hesitate to try new things, share when something doesn’t work out the way they thought and they have fun! It taught me how to shut up that inner voice that says 'you can’t do it and shouldn’t even try' and that lesson will stay with me.
