Introduction and Overview
Hello and welcome!
Welcome to my course, 'Developing Line Work and Mark Making', a course designed to give you all the tips, tricks and confidence you need to take your sketching to the next level.
This course is designed to teach you sketching exactly how I learned to sketch, that is to learn sketching through sketching! Instead of through long, repetitive or boring exercises.
This course is all about loose and lively ink sketching like this.
Instead of labouring over long exercises, or tedious repetitive study - what we will do is cover the background and then dive straight into sketching challenges. That way, we can apply each concept straight away into a sketch.
What is included?
As part of this course you'll get an in depth handout, over 30 pages long, giving you all the background and inspiration you need for sketching.
You'll also get over 6 hours of sketching demonstrations and discussions that you can stream whenever you like, as many times as you like.
And of course, you get the opportunity to ask questions and get feedback on your sketches by posting them in the community.
Five KEY concepts in sketching
This course focuses on line work and mark making - which an emphasis on pen and ink sketching. And we'll do this through the following five concept-based workshops.
Making marks
Perspective
Shapes and structure
Line weight and quality
Developing a loose style
For the five workshops in this course, I picked out what I felt were the most important starting points for sketching. The key concepts to get you off the ground running and to open up the world of sketching possibilities as soon as possible!
Here is an example sketch from our Workshop on 'shapes and structure'.
Take your time!
Take your time to explore the course, you have a whole 12 months to get through the course. You can, of course, watch and re-watch the lessons as often as you'd like, for as long as you like.
It doesn't have to be perfect!
The nature of diving in head first into sketching, which is what I love to do, is that we will make mistakes.
That is fine. No, it's amazing, brilliant and wonderful.
Mistakes are the humanity of art, and also opportunities to reflect, learn and improve.
